Childhood, added some sugar to the bitterness

Zhang Jiahuan, 15 years old this year, has a same lovely and and genuine smiling face as her contemporaries, though; she has had suffered from the illness which is seldom known by people-“Congenital Spine Muscle Atrophy since childhood. She can’t stand, can’t sit for a long time and even can’t stretch out when lying. A correspondent attempted to make Jiahuan do arm-wresting with her maximum strength, although she tried very hard so that her cheek flushed red, it still made the correspondent feel her strength of the hand was just the same as an infant’s.

According to what we know, there are some evitable accidental defects in a person’s information of millions of gene, but only the children whose parents’ defective genes coincide by chance may be possible to suffer from this disease. Therefore, the probability of contracting this disease is approximately one in a million! The children contracting this disease not only can’t walk on their feet permanently, but also they almost lose the ability of attending activities due to the muscular atrophy of the whole body.

When she was six years old, in order to make Jiahuan walk on her feet, her mother once shut her heart to pity, helped and forced Jiahuan to practice—crawling, throwing, standing…, but what’s the result? Just repeating the same ending—falling down, feeling painful and crying.

Thus her weak body couldn’t bear the endurance; she had no choice but to leave her dearly-loved classroom. No wonder Jiahuan once resolutely swallow a gold necklace when she was merely nine years old in hope to end the torment of the demon of disease, but fortunately, after timely rescue, she narrowly escaped death.

Although only discontinuous three years of studying at school, Jiahuan had learned all the courses of middle school with the help of home tutor and her diligent work. She studied the professional course of digital multimedia from e-university completely on her own, has proficiently mastered the utilization of computer; she loves literature, has taken several refresher courses like classic literature, and so on. Ideal is the fire, kindling the light of hope.

Sing and be a skylark pursing her dream

The correspondent once asked her mother, “what does Jiahuan like best?” , this benign and amiable mother meditated for a moment, spoke out two words—“Singing”.

Jiahuan has a sweet voice, she has collected several hundred Chinese and foreign classic songs, she often imitatively practice singing, she said, “singing brings her much confidence and happiness”.

There is an almost legendary story: one day mother unexpectedly received a call for delivering the goods from a brand furniture company, which made her feel quite confused for she didn’t place and orders. Originally, several days ago, 12-year-old Jiahuan strolled through streets with her “apprentice”, she happened pass the final scene of Shenzhen Xiangjiang Furniture Center Singing Contest”, she couldn’t help but singing a song confidently on the stage, she unexpected won the first prize. An exquisite award certificate approved her brilliance, the whole set of high-grade furniture which was considered as coming down from heaven made their home more beautiful and elegant. When Jiahuan mentioned this incident, her face was wreathed in smiles.

From 11 years old, little Jiahuan has won a series of awarding: the silver prize in Shenzhen Television “Little Gold Cattle” Singing Contest, the silver prize in First Children Culture Art Festival “Singing for Tomorrow” Singing Contest in Baoan district, the silver prize in Guangdong venue of National English Singing Contest; she was also invited to make performance in various places many times. She also won the gold prize in Beijing final of National” Dandelion” Singing Contest for Teenagers, won “Special Honor” in National Campus Singers Contest and “Singing Award” in CCTV program “Music Express”…

In June, 2004, Jiahuan was invited to attend “The 14th International Suman Piano and Vocal Music Contest” without considering the restriction of prescribed rules, this contest is an international important event and is held every four years since 1956, the competitors are professional bel canto singers from all over the world, Zhang Jiahuan is lucky to be the youngest and the only disabled competitor on record. When attending the contest, Jiahuan sang four Italian and German songs, when walking out the competition arena, much Germany audience had already waited for her, and they all shake her hands and asked for her signature. The local media acclaimed her that “the best voice god favors us with”; she was given the title “Suman Contest Envoy”.

In May, 2005, the selective contest of theatrical performance of the U.N sixtieth anniversary celebration was held in more than twenty venues. In Beijing venue, Zhang Jiahuan won the unique gold prize in teenagers group and got the qualification to go to New York to attend the U.N celebration performance.

On September 21st, 2005 the performance was held in west—park Presbyterian church in Manhattan. Zhang Jiahuan sang an Italian song “My Dear Father” in Italian, and then she sang this song again in Chinese. Her voice touched the vice president of the U.N International Coordination Committee—Jane and the audience from all over the world, she won remarkable honor for our motherland.

Life, is always filled with dreams, the girl always with her sweet smile suddenly became impenetrable, she told the correspondent that her purpose was making efforts to become a singer like Sahara Brim an, and be a peace envoy and a skylark pursing her dream.

International Disabled Day, she reached sacred palace.

To celebrate the International Disabled Day defined by the U.N. convention, China Art Ensemble for the Disabled creatively has creatively presented grand music dance “My Dream”Ⅲ, in early December it had been performed for six scenes, and 60 countries had simultaneously watched it through wideband video.

Before the performance, the chief editor of the performance, Zhang Jigang, selected her to sing the English song “Snow Velvet Flower”. When she got the news, she appeared very excited, she said , “《My Dream》is the common dream of many people, it remains be my dream for many years to give performance in the Great Hall of the People, dreams are interlinked among each other, they all show the most beautiful things in people’s innermost being.”
