The piano sonata Beethoven left for Jin Yuanhui-- Moonlight

Moonlight , original name is Piano Sonata No.14 Op.27.2 1801,gained its popular name since a German poet compare its first movement with boat floating on moon-lit Lake Luzern .

Chinese blind artist Yuanhui Jin takes delight in talking about Beethoven, taking on an adoring look. He said ¡°I like European baroque music in 16 th century and classical music in 18 th century very much. And Beethoven is an excellent musician of that period. I like him; I adore him, for his music as well as his life. Unlike in some other musicians' works, every note in his music is indispensable. Although is not as complicated as Chopin's or Schumann' which demand great musical performance, his music express a feeling that follows piano, heart, and artistic conception.

Before My Dream III was performed in people's auditorium, the art director Zhang Jigang and Yin Qing asked Yuanhui to play the Moonlight for them during intense rehearsal. After his performance, the two artists didn't say anything for a long time then became excited and applaud coincidently. Since then, Jin yuanhui has been performing Moonlight many times on stages both here and aboard and gaining consentaneous praises from listeners ¡£

Moonlight, original name is Piano Sonata No.14 Op.27.2 1801 £¬ gained its name several years after Beethoven's death, when the German poet and music critic Ludwig Rellstab compared the music of the first movement to moonlight. Since then, Moonlight Sonata has stayed the ¡°official¡± unofficial title of the sonata. Jin Yuanhui has learned a story about the process Beethoven compose Moonlight. One evening as young Beethoven was out walking he passed a cobbler's house where he heard someone inside practicing one of his compositions. As he stopped to listen he overheard a girl say that she wished she could hear a real musician play it properly.

Beethoven went into the house and, noticing the young lady at the piano was blind, offered to play the piece for her. He did so for more than an hour and while he did, darkness fell and the lone candle in the room went out. "Outside in the night sky the moon shone brightly and sent its radiant beams glistening into the room where Beethoven sat playing beautiful music. He was so inspired by the appreciation of his music by the young lady and the beauty of the atmosphere in the room that he composed his famous 'Moonlight Sonata.'

This text made young Jin yuanhui feel the resemblance of his and the girl's destiny because both the girl and himself are blind. Moonlight gave him very deep impression that after hearing this sonata he said, ¡°At that time I felt this piece of music suited me too much. It can express my innermost feelings. I felt Moonlight was Beethoven's conclusion of life. He employed the format of three-parts. The first part is continuous adagios. The feeling in it is abundant with heartthrob, sadness and dark presage. Although changes of accompaniment, theme and strength are not too strong, it expresses the fluctuation of composer's emotions through changes of harmony, register and rhythm. This sonata includes the original conception of Beethoven. The second movement is Allegretto, very short that Liszt described it as ¡°a flower between two abysm.¡± It transmitted the deep thoughts in first movement and the intense atmosphere in the third movement by distinct lightness. The third movement is fierce Presto £¬ related closely to the former movement in bitonality but totally different in the emotions it expresses. The first theme is an unstoppable ebullience and inflame, like intensive fury or incessant stamps. The second theme is like appeal from the bottom of heart. The quavers approaching the end of the movement and the emphatic rhythm expressed passionate feelings and an iron will. After a short recapitulation the innermost excite is expressed more violently. In coda when boiling ardor reaches its culmination, it suddenly becomes silent, but the insurgent emotion dosen't.

In the legend Beethoven got inspiration from the blind girl and composed Moonlight Sonata. However, today after two centuries blind pianist Jin Yuanhui will perform the piano sonata created by the musical giant. Two blind people, one Moonlight¡ªit's like a coincidence made by fortune, and moonlight seems to be composed just for Jin Yuanhui by Beethoven.

Relative materials of Jin Yuanhui's just for reference

Since August of 2003 £¬ appeared in the elaborated list of the new round large-scale rode show of China Disabled People's Art Performing Troupe was a familiar name¡ªJin Yuanhui. This completely blind young player once bringing surprises to people has disappeared from artistic stage of the disable. His comeback aroused fervent attention again.

Young Yuanhui had once surged great waves

Playing musical instrument when he was 2 £¬ on stage at 4 £¬ playing abroad at 7 £¬ performing hundreds of times ¡£

In 1984 Jin Yuanhui was born in a ordinary workers's family in Qingdao . Geneogenous blindness didn't wear away his talent for music. It is amazing to watch every step of his childhood.

He can play music with toy piano before he reached 3 years old. He began to learn electronic organ at the age of 4 under instructions of a music teacher from a blind school. When he was 5 £¬ at which age some children were still playing in mothers' arm, he had already appeared on stage, performing Radetzky March and other famous works with great skills and proficiency £¬ gaining the special award of electronic organ contest for children in Renbao Cup of Tsingdao, taking part in countrywide artistic performance by disables £¬ and attending varieties of performances and contests more and more frequently. When he was 7 £¬ he went to Hongkong with China Disabled People's Art Performing Troupe £¬ co-played with Lun Youliang from Hongkong. Although on the same stage there were superstars like Zhang Xueyou and Cheng long he gained more attention and applauds and was called ¡°wonder child¡± by Hongkongers. When he reached 8, he visited Austria , Holland , Norway , Sweden and other countries. He also played in Zhongnanhai for leaders of the nation. In the same year he was admitted by blind school of Beijing and began to learn piano systematically.

Many years after that £¬ his lovely and light figure would accompany the beautiful music of piano, acting actively on the stage of special art. He just participated the around-reporting troupe of ¡®YuanNan¡± of 1994 and ¡°Love our country and be self-reliant¡± of 1995, and he have already given performances for 200 times in various places of this country. This happy blind child who is eager to materialize his dream brings us not only the enjoyment of art by his music but also encouragement and inspiration. He has been honored ¡°ten outstanding youth' by the relevant departments of our country, and he has also won a serious of prize like ¡®prize for being diligent and learned¡±. What's more, his family has also been credited as ¡°ten families in our country who are good at educating children¡±

An official of china disabled people's association who named Feiwei had been participating in nurture him. He used three ¡°very¡± to describe this blind music child at that time:

¡° very clever, very lively, very eager to learn! His comprehensive quotient must be higher than many healthy children who are at the same age with him!¡±

First-class student of the middle school of the central musical college, working hard for many years, achieved the highest level of professional quotation for students

At that time, little YuanHui left the limelight to continue the further study in his own professional field. In February of 1997, he entered the famous middle school of central musical college to receive education, and became schoolmates of another blind child SunYan who is also self-reliant and talented. They have even been having lessons in the same classroom. But different from SunYan's identification of being a long-term student, YuanHui was just a short-term student there.

YuanHui now have changed a lot, he is not the ¡°sweetie¡± but a handsome young man who is 178cm tall and with the weight of about 100kilo. His personality has also become more quiet and introverted.

After many years' professional studying, YuanHui's performing skill and theoretical art level has been much better than before. He told the reporter, among many piano artists and genres, he thinks the most worshipful one is the music style of Bach, Mendelssohn which represent the characteristic of the religion music of Europe of the 17 th century. Its method of performing contains many voice parts and many melodies, and this can fully express the inner meaning of music. So he is going to improve his way of performing according to this style.

When asking him about what progress he had made in recent years, he would first think for a while and answer you: I can wash clothes myself. It is so easy for a healthy person, but it becomes a challenge for those blind people. How hard it would be for him to catch up with and even outperform his healthy classmates in the field of the complicated profession of art! This is beyond the imagination of us! Because he can not see, he can only memorize and comprehend the score by hearing, and he would ask his father and other classmates to help him to correct the score for him after class. It would certainly take much more time of him than other classmates.

Because of YuanHui's further education, his family was split into two: his mother and sister were left in Qingdao ; his father and him lived in Beijing , living a very simple life. Besides, YuanHui also taking courses in those special schools designed for blind people, and he was busy coming to and from the two schools, shouldering more pressure than his classmates.

Even though, the clever and diligent child was also one of the best in his class. In the professional exam of the end of 2002, he reached the highest level of students' professional grading, i.e. A level of the six degree. Of course he had received the praise from both his teacher and his classmates.

Facing new challenge calmly

Because there was no special exams designed for blind people, he did not get into university

But he worked hard and go back to the stage

The year of 2003 was very crucial to JinYuanhui and alloftheother high school graduates who were facing the National Entrance Test. YuanHui had plenty of dreams and goals since he was young, and he was eager to make progress in the field of piano performing art. So he would very much like to enter the college of the highest Chinese musical college. Since his art performing skill has already reached the requirement, he would only need to pass the exam of normal subjects as sciences and so on to make his dream come true. What's more, Yuanhui was very confident with his culture lessons.

But there was not any exams designed for blind people in that region, he could not materialize his dream of entering college. Although he was very peaceful when he was talking about this, we can imagine how hard it was for him to overcome this!

He did not lose heart because of the new failure, ¡°if you place too much importance on the short-term benefits, you will ignore your pursuing for art.¡± He comforted himself and find a new goal for himself to continue his pursuing for art.

YuanHui is good at playing accompaniment with piano for those chorus and playing together with other musical instruments. Now he is thinking about how to coordinate piano with Chinese musical instruments like dizi, erhu, suona, guqin and bianzhong. He wants to show improvements in the way of performing and the impact.

Because YuanHui have left the classroom, he goes back to the art stage which he likes very much. In August of this year, he was together with China Disabled People's Art Performing Troupe, which he had left for a long time, to give performances for about ten times in various places in Zhejiang, despite the dense heat of summer, and he showed his excellent skill in art and his high spirit, which win him a lot of applauds from the bottom of the audiences' heart and some good remarks from artists.

YuanHui had once said sincerely that he was people's son, and he would focus on the performing art of piano for his lifetime to pay back to the society. When he went back to the stag, his performing skill was improved and he also shows his higher spiritual world. This would certainly bring surprise to those who care him and care about special art.

God has given them a peaceful space, and they have made success with it. On the sacred and sublime stage of T he Great Hall of the People £¬ four blind people finished the performing of piano quartet of ¡®Kurt Masur', ¡®always be ready'.

The success of the performance at T he Great Hall of the People didn't stop YuanHui ¡£ JinYuanhui had challenged himself for higher level during his performance in Shanghai . He performed Beethoven's ¡®moonlight' which is of romantic style. ¡®moonlight' is like the silent river, floats to your ears, holds your heart softly and slowly, makes you feel there is wonderful land in front of your eyes.
